The Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI), which is part of the Texas A&M University System, is the largest university based transportation research organization in the nation. TTI has offices at the main campus of Texas A&M University in College Station, as well as in Austin, Arlington, Dallas, Galveston, San Antonio, and Houston. There are one/two positions available in the Houston office for spring, summer and fall.
The majority of the work will involve data collection, reduction, and entry for various projects including those specified in our Urban Travel Studies agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), the Motorist Assistance Program, Congestion Monitoring Studies, etc. Responsibilities will include planning, scheduling, and collecting traffic data in the field as well as data reduction and analysis. Other work could include GIS work, programming, web development, upgrading computer hardware and software, trouble-shooting problems, and network support. This position will be filled through solicitation of College/University Cooperative Education Program, Career Services, and individual response.
High school diploma with some college course work is preferred. Applicants must be proficient with computer spreadsheet, word processing and Windows OS. Knowledge of databases, GIS, and programming is preferred. Applicants must have valid Texas driver’s license.
A minimum commitment of 10 hours per week is required. We are very flexible with hours and will accommodate class schedule changes from one semester to the next whenever possible. All positions are subject to a six week evaluation period. Applicants 18 years old or older are preferred.

Position Title: Student Worker / COOP Student
Department: TTI Houston
Salary: $8 - $12.00 /hr (salary may commensurate with experience)

Major/Essential Duties of Job: Perform general office and field duties such as, answering main telephone lines, collection, entry, and reduction of transportation data, assist office staff with general duties.
Occasional Duties: Travel in and around Harris County and occasional travel around the state for data collection, delivery or other tasks.
Physical Requirements Necessary to perform Duties: Speaking, hearing, seeing, writing, operating a motor vehicle, some lifting and carrying, sitting for extended periods of time and operating a personal computer.
Educational Qualifications/Training Required: High school diploma or equivalent, engineering or computer college course experience preferred. General computer knowledge, proficient in Word, Excel and Windows or similar word processing and spreadsheet software. Database, GIS and programming knowledge preferred.
Work Experience (months, years) and Skills Required:
Main office hours Monday trough Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Some early morning and/or evening hours are required during data collection activities.
